Feels kind of cheaty though, so I'm still a bit torn. I still might turn the glow back off, but once I opted to turn it on, I've had much better enjoyment and ability to track an animal for really long distances. It helps once you get some skills to identify weight and gender to narrow them down, but I didn't have that till recently. This is realistic of course, but means you get mixed up and turned about at times.

And 2nd reason, you can't distinguish between tracks of the same animal and another. 2 reasons: the tracks are too spread out most of the time, without the glow, it often takes many minutes to find the track again, even when you know where it should be. Found the game was pretty challenging in a good way, but tracking animals over long distances was an exercise in frustration. I just got the game last week, and turned off all the UI completely from the start, which is something I commonly do in games. With some more expedients they could manage to create a true hardcore mode for the players who already have beaten the game and just want a total hunting immersion.Īnyway I came to a point I was already about to abandon the game, but thanks to the UI coustomization I can still put some more hours into the game :) Also it would be cool to have some skills disabled in realism mode to better suit the play style: being able to see tracks from afar becomes redundant by example.

I wish they put more options to make the game even more realistic, like no fast travel (ok I can avoid to use it, but the temptation is there) and to hide the hunt pressure coloured areas on the map. It happens that the game tells me there are tracks on the ground but I can't manage to see them, maybe it is my eye that is not trained to recognize them, maybe the level of detail is not so good to represent certain tracks on certain terrain textures, I don't know.
The hunter call of the wild review page how to#
After some experimenting I decided to only keep the directional cone on, but it's only temporary because I can't still figure how to clearly identify tracks. Yes AI still needs more work on path finding, it happens that they get stuck behind trees when you call them, they also teleport through lakes and big obstacles on mountains and do other odd stuff. I routinely see deer stuck on rocks or trees, or simply walking in circles because they can't figure out where to go. Even without assists, it still feels a bit too easy I still feel like I'm a step or two ahead. I hope the animal AI sees some work, though. Not entirely sold on the tracks, either, but turning them on is much less fun, so they stay off. I play with all assists and UI turned off, and it's a much more immersive experience. Originally posted by Big Ram:I'm with you, Juke. So anyone playing hardcore sim? what's your experience? how do you deal with true hunting? Blood should be visible on the grass, as it is a liquid that flows from the above. The only true game engine limit I found is that tracks are almost invisible in high grass, even blood splatters are rendered under the grass layer so I have to go prone to see them close up. I was literally thrown up in the air like a basket ball, really bad looking).Īll of the sudden this game turned into a true hunting simulator, where tracking down an anìmal is a pain, expecially in high grass and vegetation, I had to rely on my senses and perception of the surroundings, I had to press the trigger only if I was 100% certain to shot down the animal with a single bullet, otherwise I did a mess, filling the land with poor suffering wounded animals, unable to find them. Result: I was killed by a bear in no time! (hey devs please do something with the hunter's ragdolls. So I decided to give it a try and disable all the UI's except the hunting UI bottom right corner.

Playing this way I can slaughter wildlife all around me without any fairplay on the prey's side. It seems like cheating as I can see tracks far away in the grass, I know exactly where a call comes from, I can mark a spotted animal position on the map when hunting on long distance and so on. I found playing this game with all the UI stuff turned on way too easy.
